Our best drams

our best drams

This is where all the data we collect throughout the year comes into play. We compare the scores versus the cost to determine the whiskey with the High Score and the whiskey that’s the year’s Best Buy.

2024 high score

GLENDALOUGH BATCH 001

The Glendalough Batch 001 received the highest score of the year with an 88.6, followed closely by the Glenmorangie Tale Of Tokyo.

This was actually a “bonus blind bottle pick” from club member Mike Anderson. The Glendalough came in at a price of $100. The Batch 001 is an Irish Single Malt that was aged for 7 years in ex-Bourbon barrels and then finished in Mizunara (Japanese Oak) casks.

2024 best buy

HIGHLAND PARK 12

The Highland Park 12 was named the Best Buy of 2024 because it came in with a score of 87.6 for an affordable price of $60.

This Orkney Single Malt is known for it unique Island flavors accentuated by the faat that they use both first fill sherry European Oak casks and American ex-Bourbon casks.

2023 high score

NC’NEAN SINGLE MALT

Nc’Nean (pronounced NOOK-nee-in) is a relatively new distillery and this was the first flight we have tried. It received the highest score of the year with an average of 89.2. So, it’s an official clean sweep for Nc’Nean Distillery. All three of the Nc’Nean expressions we tried, took the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions of the entire year. That’s the first time in my recollection that has happened!

2023 best buy

CONNEMARA SINGLE MALT

Connemara Single Malt gets an honorable mention as our Best Buy of 2023. It received a score of 87.9. Connemara is on the local shelves for $40.99! Such a pleasant dram at a price that could be daily drinker!

2022 high score

BOWMORE 12

The Bowmore 12 really appealed to the members who enjoy an Islay single malt. This peaty selection earned an average score of 88.3. Clearly it was the favorite of the year.

2022 best buy

RITTENHOUSE RYE
BOTTLED IN BOND

This decision was a bit of a judgement call. Two rye whiskies could really make a case a being the BEST BUY of 2022. But, one in particular is considerably cheaper than the other. At a price tag of $24.99, The Rittenhouse Rye BIB scored a very respectable 85.2 average score.
