FAQs

What if I’m not comfortable sharing notes and scores during meetings?

There is no requirement to participate in the discussions. We truly do believe that there is no wrong answer, but we value a no-pressure environment. We do like to have scores for the sake of the Whiskey Stats and selecting a number is as easy as grading a school paper.

Do I need to host?

No, hosting is not required. Not everyone has a room or chairs to accommodate our group. If you want to be involved, you could always offer to bring the food to help the host cover the evening.

Why Blind Tastings?

We do Blind Tastings because we discovered that occasionally we were being influenced by the marketing and the bottle/label. Also, it adds a new element of fun to the meetings.

How are my dues used?

Dues are used strictly for the flights and maybe a few operational expenses. Each flight averages about $250 each month. Then we also provide the booklets for notes. The money is mostly spent by the end of the year for the good of the group. Some is carried over to purchase the first flights if the year while we wait for the dues to be paid.

Do you think you’ll need to repeat whiskies?

I don’t think so. We will from time to time revisit some whiskies, just to “check” our palates and see if we have evolved. However, there are new distilleries popping up all over the world as the “whiskey boom” continues. Plus, the now expanding technique of “finishing” whiskey in other liquor barrels has added even more variety to the world of whiskey. We will also see huge growth in the new category of American Single Malt whiskies, made in America with the Scotch style.
